Researchers from the Institute of Archeology of the Jagiellonian University in Kraków completed the excavation season at the Tel Erani station in Israel with the discovery of a defensive wall from 5,000 years ago.

The spot investigated by the team from the Institute of Archeology is located near the town of Kiriat Gat and covers about 26 hectares. The discovery of a defensive wall about 11 meters thick may prove that the cities of southern Levant were built earlier than previously thought. This is the oldest building of this type in Israel. Archaeologists from the Jagiellonian University estimate that it was built around 3,300 years BC and is another proof that Tel Erani was a well-developed center before the arrival of the Egyptians.

The project is financed by a grant from the National Science Center and carried out in cooperation with researchers from the Ben-Gurion University in Berszewo, the Israel Antiquities Authority and the University of Buenos Aires.
