Archaeologists’ research from the Institute of Archeology of the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań excavated a unique discovery in the Kolegiacki Square in Poznań. They found the “pearl bonnet” in the eastern part of the former collegiate church of St. Mary Magdalene.
The conservation of a unique European item was carried out also by the Warsaw experts, where until August 4, 2019, the bonnet will be shown as an attraction of the exhibition “Rule and Dazzle. Jewels and jewellery in Poland in the 16th and 17th centuries”.
The bonnet was found in the grave of a noblewoman of the Nałęcz noble family, dated back to the 16th century. Until now, this kind of bonnet could only be admired on paintings, and the Poznań discovery significantly enhances the knowledge about how the ancestors made them, and wear them. A similar bonnet was worn by Barbara Radziwiłłówna.
