The third full Gaia dataset was released on June 13. It contains new, more detailed information on nearly two billion objects in the Milky Way.

Gaia is a project of the European Space Agency (ESA) participated by the astronomers from the University of Warsaw. Its goal is to create the most accurate map of the Milky Way, allowing astronomers to reconstruct the history and future of our galaxy, the life cycle of stars and human place in the universe over billions of years.

The new data catalog contains information about the chemical composition, temperature of stars, their color, mass, age, and the speed at which stars are approaching or departing from the Earth.

Novelty in the published dataset is the largest catalog of double stars in our galaxy to date, thousands of solar system objects such as asteroids and planet moons, and millions of galaxies and quasars beyond the Milky Way.
