On August 24, 2020, representatives of the University of Warsaw (UW) and the Medical University of Warsaw (MUW) held the meeting, attended by the rectors and vice-chancellors of the University of Warsaw and the Medical University of Warsaw of the current term, as well as new rectors of both universities, who will start working in September.

The talks concerned the development of scientific and didactic cooperation. During the meeting, the rectors confirmed their interest in continuing the strategic cooperation of both universities. They analyzed the current state of cooperation and the issues related to the possibility of federalization.

The concept of the federation and the draft of its statute were developed in 2019, positively assessed by the rector authorities, Senates and University Councils of the University of Warsaw and the Medical University of Warsaw, and submitted for further arrangements to the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. The Ministry positively assessed the proposed federation model. Its implementation requires an amendment to the act, which will be accepted by the Ministry of Science.
