Dr Elżbieta Ostrowska, University of Alberta in Edmonton (Canada) will conduct research at the Faculty of Philology of the University of Łódź (UŁ) on the film and television works of Agnieszka Holland. Thanks to the project, Dr Ostrowska will write the first monograph in English of the work of an outstanding representative of contemporary women’s cinema.

The work of Agnieszka Holland is a fascinating example of female cinema because it does not fit seamlessly into the categories developed by film feminism. Perhaps this is why her films are often omitted in studies on women’s cinema, – said Dr Elżbieta Ostrowska.

The aim of the project is to analyze the film and television work of Agnieszka Holland in the perspective defined by three directions of contemporary research on film and media: the theory of film and media authorship, the concept of transnational cinema and media, and feminism and global cinema of women.
