The Centre for Student Activities has opened at the Katowice campus of the Silesian University of Technology. It houses unique apparatus, state-of-the-art software, a full set of power tools – everything needed to bring students’ wildest ideas to life.
“The CAS includes a state-of-the-art numerically controlled plasma burner, CNC lathe and EDM, a 3D scanning and printing system, a set of furnaces for heat treatment, melting and casting up to 2200 °C. In addition, a full set of power tools, presses, a painting and sandblasting chamber are at the students’ disposal”, says Professor Janusz Adamiec, associate dean for cooperation and development of the Faculty of Materials Engineering and CAS project coordinator.
The opening of the Centre is another step in the development of the Katowice campus. The authorities of the university and the city of Katowice, aim to close the space between the buildings of the Technical University on Krasińskiego Street and create a place serving students and residents.
