Dr Paulina Kasperkiewicz-Wasilewska from the Faculty of Chemistry at the Wrocław University of Technology became a scholarship holder of the L’Oréal-UNESCO program for Women and Science for conducting advanced research in the field of life sciences.
The chemist is involved in the determination of activity and imaging of proteolytic enzymes – an important group of enzymes controlling biochemical processes occurring in living cells and leading to removal of abnormal cancer cells. The results of her research have recently been published in the prestigious Journal of the American Chemical Society.
The “L’Oréal Poland for Women and Science” program is aimed at promoting scientific achievements and encouraging the continuation of scientific work. Its partners are the Polish Committee for UNESCO, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and the Polish Academy of Sciences. The winners are awarded a scholarship to cover the costs of traveling to any chosen scientific conference in Europe.
