The Opole University of Technology (PO) has finished the work on the creation of a Chinese garden. This is the beginning of changes related to the development of the central point of the university’s second campus.
The Opole university’s second campus is located on the site of former military barracks. Until now, its focal point has been the roll-call square, which was treated as a car park. This has now changed, with a Chinese garden created on the square – designed by architecture students.
“There are benches, a multimedia fountain, a pond, trees, shrubs, perennials and several hundred plants. As a result, the campus has gained a space where students can relax and prepare for classes”, says Prof. Tomasz Boczar, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for General and Operational Affairs at the PO.
At the entrance to the garden, the qilin has been placed, representing a mythical animal from Chinese mythology, in Western literature inaccurately referred to as the Chinese unicorn. For the Chinese, qilins are a good omen, a symbol of the grace of heaven, reads the university’s website.
