The project COMPLETE (Completing management options in the Baltic Sea Region) co-implemented by the University of Gdańsk, has obtained the status of a flagship project within the framework of the European Union Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region.
The main goal of the COMPLETE project is to minimize the introduction of harmful aquatic organisms and pathogens into the Baltic Sea, which are found in the Baltic Sea through two main sources – ballast water and ship hulls.
The 12 partners from the Baltic Sea Region countries want to develop a “road map” for a regionally harmonized strategy for the management of biological pollution brought by ship hulls (biofouling). Thanks to the status of the flagship project, the results obtained and the recommendations developed have a better chance of being passed to the legislative level, which in turn gives them the opportunity to be used in practice.
