Computer scientists and students of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Computer Science and Automation of the Lodz University of Technology, in cooperation with doctors and physiotherapists, have developed a navigation system for visually impaired pedestrians, using “vibroactive feedback around the neck”.
The innovative navigation system was awarded a gold medal at the International Warsaw Invention Show IWIS.
The collar is made of breathable sports fabric and allows the placement of tiny vibration actuators according to the user’s preferences.
The solution uses the sense of touch to convey information about the suggested direction of movement of a blind person, and vibration is a way of communication. This is new solution in personal electronics and support systems.
