Prof. Marcin Tomczak, conductor and artistic director of the Academic Choir of the University of Gdansk – has won the Award of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage for outstanding academic achievements. The award is given to distinguished persons in the world of culture who make a special contribution to the development, dissemination and protection of cultural heritage.
Prof. Tomczak has been working with the Academic Choir of the University of Gdansk since 1992. He has won numerous Grand Prix of choral competitions with it and gold medals at choral Olympiads in Busan (South Korea 2002), Bremen (Germany 2004), Xiamen (China 2006), Riga (Latvia 2014).
“My sincere congratulations to the Professor! I am proud that he directs our university choir. Thanks to him, we can get to know extraordinary works not only of choral music, but also, for example, surprising and fantastic interpretations of popular music,” says the Rector of the University of Gdańsk, Professor Piotr Stepnowski.
