The Institute of Geological Sciences of the University of Wroclaw invitesparticipants to a lecture from the series “Secrets of the Earth and the Universe”. On Saturday, February 23, Dr Krzysztof Turniak will talk about the elements used in the production of modern equipment, and at the same time threatened by depletion.
Each smartphone is made up of dozens of rare elements, and currently exploited sources of some of them are already running out. What is worse – they are located in only one or several countries in the world, which may threaten the stability of supplies.
The scientist will try to answer the following questions: What are the critical elements and what are the prospects for their acquisition? Which of them we produce in Poland? Are we in danger of stopping the production of technologically advanced devices due to the lack of certain elements? Can the exploitation of minerals containing critical elements be harmful to the environment?
