In the Sejm, nearly 90 amendments were adopted to the Act on Science and Higher Education and its provisions. The vote on the Act will be held on July 3. The Ministry of Science is convinced that the new law will become effective from October 1 this year.
– Until now, the former provisions of the Act forced universities to accept the outer forms of organization. We give these competences to the university – said Piotr Müller, deputy minister of science and higher education, on the radio program 1 of Polish Radio.
The deputy minister also explained what will change after the introduction of these amendments.
– The competences of the University Council have been changed. It has weakened, although I do not think it’s a good move. But this act arose on the basis of a compromise, so it would make no sense to insist on all our solutions. The Council will be elected entirely by the academic community. It is intended for the people from within the university. However, it will have to have other representatives from outside, who will be elected by the university senate – explained Piotr Müller.
