Deputy minister of science announces the reform of the Polish Academy of Sciences

23.08.2018

The systemic reform of the Polish Academy of Sciences is essential and it is high time to begin it. This also applies to salaries at the academy institutes – said Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education Sebastian Skuza to the Dziennik Gazeta Prawna in an interview.

Deputy Minister Skuza also pointed out that the Constitution for Science will cause a real increase in expenditures on science and higher education.

Compared to the situation before the new bill, there will be much more money in the system of education. This is due to the introduction of an annual valorization of expenditures on higher education and science. In total, the amount for both divisions will increase year-on-year with PLN 700 million up to PLN 1.2 billion. Currently, the minimum increase guaranteed by the regulations is only PLN 100 million. In addition, public universities will receive in 2019 government bonds worth PLN 3 billion. This additional capitalization will allow them to invest and spare more funds for current expenses – said Skuza.
