Deputy Prime Minister Gowin: Polish universities need deep reforms

19.06.2019

– If we want to develop a prosperous society, a modern economy and a functioning state in Poland, we must also ensure our universities functioning in the spirit of the 21st century, not the 19th century – said Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Science and Higher Education, Jarosław Gowin.

Polish universities are attached to traditional solutions. The position of our universities in global rankings shows that deep reforms are necessary. Besides, academic centers in Europe and around the world are subject to change. There is fierce competition. Who cares only about the maintaining status quo situation will lose – added Deputy Prime Minister Gowin.

In the opinion of the head of the Ministry of Science, “the period of broad social transfers is ending”, and Poland should concentrate on what ensures long-term economic and civilization development.

– Without investment in science, the pace of our development will slow down in the next few years – said Deputy Prime Minister Gowin.
