Research conducted by a team from the Center of Pre-Columbian Studies at the University of Warsaw under the supervision of Dr. Jan Szymański, carried out in the Central American town of San Isidro, proved that this area did not belong to the peripheries of the Mayan cultural civilizations”.
Warsaw scientists have set up a research stand in a place where sugar cane is currently being grown. Preliminary work allowed them to discover about 20 large remnants of ancient platforms or pyramids. A few thousand years ago, the constructions fulfilled sacred, administration and residential functions.
Their discovery with the implementation of a precise altitude map of the fields was possible thanks to the use of drones. It may be the basis for changing the thesis of the area of western El Salvador as the peripheries of the cultural Mayan civilization.
