Dr Bertrand Piccard, the first man who circled the globe with a plane powered exclusively by solar energy, extraordinary innovator will receive the title of doctor honoris causa of the Silesian University of Technology on 5 December. The ceremony will start at 11.00 in Hall A of the Education and Congress Center of the Silesian University of Technology at ul. Konarskiego 18B in Gliwice.
Dr Piccard devoted his professional life to science. He is a doctor specializing in psychiatry, but he is best known for his achievements in the field of modern technologies. He travelled twice round the globe, firstly with a balloon and then with a plane of his own idea, powered exclusively by solar energy. His achievements show that flying without a drop of fuel, with no harm to the environment is possible.
After the awarding of the title, an interdisciplinary scientific conference “Innovative activities of the Silesian University of Technology for the protection of the climate and the environment” will begin.
