Dr Eng. Andreas Glenz, a member of the first Council of the University of Silesia in Katowice, was awarded the Society of Friends of Silesia Prize. The distinction is awarded to people or institutions especially meritorious for Silesia.
Andreas Glenz is a doctor of technical sciences in the field of automation and robotics. He dealt with creating new measurement and research techniques in the field of nanotechnology and building individual scientific and research equipment for various institutes in the world. He cooperated with many scientists, including Nobel Prize winners.
The prize of the Society of Friends of Silesia is “Ślązaczka” – a sculpture by Prof. Piotr Gawron, depicting a bust of a girl in a folk costume, with an apple in his outstretched hand. So far, the sculpture was awarded to Prof. Jan Miodek, Kazimierz Kutz, Wojciech Kilar, Krystyna Loska and the National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice.
