Dr Piotr Achinger from the Mathematical Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences received the Medal of the Young Scientist awarded by the Warsaw University of Technology for his breakthrough in research on the topology of algebraic manifolds and their applications.
The Young Scholar Medal, established in 2007, is awarded for outstanding and recognized achievements in the field of science and technical innovation and other outstanding creative achievements.
The medal is given by the rector of the Warsaw University of Technology at the request of the Medal Chapter to a scholar who is under 35 years. The distinction is to promote the achievements of young scientists characterized by the independence of creative concepts and the special dynamics of development.
Dr Piotr Achinger is one of the four ERC Starting Grant 2018 winners. He received the grant of EUR 1 007 500 for the project about the acronym KAPIBARA (Homory Theory of Algebraic Varieties and Wild Ramification), which deals with the broadly understood topology of algebraic manifolds, with applications for arithmetic, mathematical physics and differential equations. “
