The innovation of the researchers of the Medical University of Silesia in Katowice “Dressing nonwoven and method of producing dressing nonwoven” can be an alternative to currently used passive and active dressings. The invention will be patented by the Polish and European Patent Offices.

The use of the electrospinning method allows to produce a dressing in which the active ingredient (propolis) is an integral part of the carrier. By regulating the carrier composition, chain microstructure, molar mass, glass transition temperature, dressing thickness and diameter of individual fibers, the mechanism of degradation (“dissolution”) of nanofibers is modified.

This enables precise programming of the active substance release and determination of the time when the dressing should remain on the wound surface. This option eliminates the need to replace and sometimes remove the dressing with part of the eschar – which can extend the healing process.
