Scientists from the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow want to use mixed reality goggles to diagnose and assess neurodegenerative diseases.

The goal of engineers from the Faculty of Electronics, Automatics, Computer Science and Biomedical Engineering of AGH is to develop a method of recording signals and processing them in order to diagnose neurodegenerative diseases – such as Parkinson’s or Huntington’s diseases.

The project “Using mixed reality to diagnose and assess the state of neurodegenerative diseases” recently received funding in the amount of PLN 1.5 million from the National Center for Research and Development under the LIDER program. Scientists want to use mixed reality (MR) goggles HoloLens 2 as a signal acquisition tool.

The implementation of works requires the involvement of specialists in various areas, especially doctors and their patients. Diagnostic data will be collected from the patients of two Krakow hospitals and clinics. Before putting on the goggles, they will first undergo traditional diagnostic tests, which will constitute a reference point for further work.
