Dr Michał Matczak from the Institute of Molecular Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences will conduct his research at the Department of Physics of Magnetics at the University of Bialystok. He received over 900,000 PLN for the project implementation in the SONATINA 2 competition of the National Science Center – said Katarzyna Dziedzik, spokesperson of the University of Bialystok.
The scientist will study the magnetic properties of materials that could be used to construct magnetic mass memories and logic systems using skyrmions. Skyrmions are magnetic quasi-particles of very small sizes, allowing to obtain high information storage densities.
SONATINA is a competition aimed at scientists who have a PhD degree no longer than 3 years. In the second competition, 154 applications were submitted, of which 45 researchers will receive funding.
