First Polish university adopted the “Gender Equality Plan”

03.09.2020

Prof. Marcin Pałys, rector of the University of Warsaw (UW), signed the “Gender equality plan for the University of Warsaw and the equality action plan for 2020-2023”. The University of Warsaw is the first university in Poland adopting a regulation known in foreign institutions as the Gender Equality Plan.

The university undertook actions leading to the development of equality policies after receiving the “HR Excellence in Research” logo from the European Commission in 2016.

The research and consultations had shown, that some people face both prejudices and various institutional obstacles, which prevent them from using the opportunities of scientific development equally. These barriers often take the form of discrimination based on gender, sexual harassment and difficulties in combining work and family life.

The research of the University of Warsaw admitted,  that the obstacles faced by women in their research careers are a loss not only for universities, but also for the development of science in Poland.
