Gdansk University of Technology is inviting secondary school students to participate in the “Build a Goldberg Machine” competition. The task is to design and build a machine working on the principle of dominoes, and the prize is an index to one of three full-time studies at the Faculty of Technical Physics and Applied Mathematics.
Teams of up to three people can enter the competition. The teams face a considerable challenge. As part of the competition task, they will have to design and construct a Goldberg machine – a device consisting of many elements and mechanisms arranged in relation to each other in a domino-like fashion. Activating the first of these triggers a chain reaction, which ultimately produces a pre-planned effect.
The aim of the competition is to activate secondary school students combined with creative play, disseminating knowledge about the phenomena of energy transformations, which are at the basis of many technical sciences.
