Students of the electronics, telecommunications and IT faculties of the Gdańsk University of Technology have developed an inspection robot that can be used in conditions of strong smoke and high temperature.
The goal of the “Inspection robot using miniature radar systems” was to create an inspection robot that informs about anomalies using a miniature radar system.
The use of radar enables the robot to work in conditions of limited visibility and improved range compared to vision solutions. The radar also enables to determine whether an object is movable, thanks to which it is possible to distinguish people from other objects in conditions of strong smoke.
The robot has been tested in the target work environment in the Port of Gdansk. Tests were also carried out with the fire brigade, during which the ability to correctly detect objects through the smoke, steam and the water curtain was confirmed.
