Gdańsk University of Technology was one of the 10 winners in the competition under the program of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education “Initiative of Excellence – Research University”. The Gdańsk university took second place in Polish part of the competition.

– The status of a research university is a huge prestige but also a challenge. I thank all members of the academic community who have contributed to the fact that our university was in such an elite group, in particular scientists and PhD students, former university authorities and my current colleagues – says the rector of the University, Prof. Krzysztof Wilde.

The aim of the competition was to select and support universities that will strive to achieve the status of a research university and will be able to successfully compete with the best academic centers in the world. The program enables academic centers to concentrate their scientific potential around the most promising research areas.
