A graduate of the Faculty of Architecture of the Silesian University of Technology received one of the three equal main prizes in the Jan Zachwatowicz International ICOMOS Competition. for the best master’s theses of students, dealing with the issues of protection of cultural heritage in 2021.
The competition jury appreciated the work of Agnieszka Janas “Agata’s Farm – Conservation and adaptation project of the half-timbered building complex in Wigancice Żytawskie for agrotourism purposes”. The founders of the award are Krystyna Zachwatowicz-Wajda and Andrzej Wajda.
The subject of the work was a study and a conservation project of the historical complex of half-timbered buildings in Wigancice Żytawskie in Upper Lusatia. The characteristic development of houses with a wooden frame structure filled with clay is a valuable cultural heritage of the region and requires conservation care. The titular “Agata’s Farm” is the only preserved original complex of half-timbered buildings in the area of Wigancice Żytawskie.
