A graduate of the Silesian University of Technology, Joanna Rozbrój, took the second place in the Prof. Jan Zachwatowicz International Competition of the Polish National Committee of the International Council for the Protection of Monuments ICOMOS for the best student diploma thesis dealing with the issues of cultural heritage protection.
The awarded work concerned the adaptation of the Szombierki Heat Power Plant in Bytom to the center of culture, visual and phonic art. There were 33 works submitted to the competition. The student’s promoter was Dr. Eng. Jerzy Wojewódka.
The jury distinguished design work in the field of conservation, adaptation and modernization of architectural monuments, theoretical in the field of conservation of architectural objects and maintenance history, and research on methods and materials used in architectural restoration. The founders of the award are Krystyna Zachwatowicz-Wajda and Andrzej Wajda.
