Tomasz Markiewicz, graduate of the University of Life Sciences in Poznań (UPP) and the President of the UPP University Council – as the first Pole and the fifteenth European in history, was elected a member of the Forum Office on United Nations Forests.
Tomasz Markiewicz has dealt with forests for 24 years, including being Vice-president of the Union of European Foresters – the largest and oldest organization bringing together 80,000 foresters of 25 European countries. At the United Nations, he will work for international forest policy and the implementation of sustainable forest management strategies.
The UN Forest Forum was established in 2000 by the United Nations Economic and Social Council. Membership in the Forum is universal and all member states of the United Nations belong to it. The Forum is the only international platform that deals exclusively with forestry issues and promotes sustainable forest management in the world.
