Director Damian Kocur, a graduate of the University of Silesia received a special jury award for directing the feature film “Bread and Salt” with cinematography by Tomasz Woźniczka in the Orizzonti competition at the closing gala of the 79th Venice International Film Festival.
The filmmaker debuted with a production in which the main character is Tymek, who witnesses a conflict in his home town between his friends and Arab employees of a nearby bar. The main theme of the story is violence and its dramatic consequences. The film is inspired by events that took place a few years ago in a small Polish town. An immigrant working in a bar killed a 20-year-old Polish man with a knife.
