Martyna Florek, a graduate of the Faculty of Architecture at Wrocław University of Technology, has won the main prize in the competition of the National Institute of Architecture and Urban Planning “Common space is a value”. It recognises master’s theses dealing with the subject of common and public spaces.
The award was given for a project to transform a degraded post-industrial site in an intensively industrialised urban area. The subject of the work is an urban agriculture centre, located on the site of a former container terminal, near Krakowska Street in Wrocław.
The laureate’s project envisages the creation of a new urban ecosystem based on the cultivation of food by local residents, its use for consumption and the processing of biological matter so that it can be reused. The complex is intended to have an educational and social function, serving as a centre for the development of agroecology and activities related to the development of a circular economy.
