The project of Weronika Graś, graduate of the Wrocław University of Technology, won an award in the Laka Competition ’21: Architecture that reacts. The laureate designed a multi-storey bridge filled with plants, with an underwater patio, a meadow on the terrace, places for recreation and work, a cafe and exhibition spaces.
The bridge designed by the winner would connect the banks in the currently disused part of the Merwe-Vierhaven port in Rotterdam. In the future, this part of the city will become a space of lively economic activity with start-ups and companies developing new technologies, but also with slow traffic, developed public transport, a network of bicycle paths and green areas.
The competition is organized by the Laka Foundation, a non-profit organization that focuses on social change triggered by architecture and design. The jury of the competition selected the projects that could have a positive impact on the environment – social, nature or surrounding buildings.
