As part of the specialisation course in the MA Landscape Architecture at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences (SGGW) ‘Design of tourism and recreation infrastructure’, fifth-year students conducted an audit of the accessibility of hiking trails in the Karkonosze National Park (KPN). The Warsaw students will develop a road map for the KPN with the most important tasks to be carried out to improve trail accessibility.

For three days, two teams of students analysed the scope of measures needed to improve the accessibility of the Karkonosze National Park’s trails, assessed their technical condition and the usability of the infrastructure for people with disabilities.

The students themselves tackled the challenges faced by people with disabilities by negotiating the educational trail around the Karkonosze Environmental Education Centre in Szklarska Poreba on a wheelchair.

The aim of the student activities is to prepare a roadmap for the Karkonoski National Park, which will include the most important groups of tasks for improving the park’s accessibility for people with disabilities.
