A device for monitoring the vital functions of infants during sleep, detecting cot death signals, which was developed by students and academics from the Faculty of Power Engineering and Aeronautics of the Warsaw University of Technology (PW), has been recognised at the International Exhibition of Inventions in Geneva.
The idea of the PW researchers was awarded a gold medal by the international jury of the exhibition and a special prize from the National Science Council of Thailand.
As PW reports, the award-winning device consists of a system of sensors together with an information processing system that identifies the onset of infant cot death. SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome) affects babies who appear perfectly healthy and happens primarily during sleep.
The success in Geneva is not the first recognition of an idea from PW. The device has already been awarded this year in the nationwide ‘Student-Inventor’ competition.
