Innovative equipment for blood analysis for the University of Life Sciences in Wrocław

01.08.2018

The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Life Sciences in Wrocław has gained new, innovative equipment for rapid blood testing of cats, dogs and horses. Vets will use it on the operating and field conditions.

The EPOC blood gas analyzer is a small device that fits in the hand, but it significantly improves the work of veterinarians, replaces traditional laboratory machines and gives a chance for quick diagnostics – thus increasing the chances of animals to survive. Just 100 microliters of blood is enough to carry out precise measurements and analysis of gases, electrolytes and biochemical parameters.

– This device is necessary to monitor vital functions during operations under general anesthesia in small and large animals. The small amount of blood needed to perform the tests will greatly facilitate the work with really small animals, in which every collected milliliter counts – says Prof. Zdzisław Kiełbowicz, head of the Chair and Clinic of Surgery.
