Institute of Astronomy of the University of Zielona Góra receives a new telescope

08.09.2021

The Prof. Janusz Gil Institute of Astronomy of the University of Zielona Góra has received a modern telescope to conduct research observations. It cost PLN 450,000 and was fully financed by the University of Zielona Góra.

The telescope will be transported to a telescope farm in Spain, from where the scientists will make specialized research as asteroid observations, participation in the GAIA Follow-up project aimed at detecting gravitational lensing phenomena and observations of eclipsing stars.

The second task of the telescope will be to conduct observations that will provide data for the “Space Surveillance and Tracking – SST” project by the European Space Agency (ESA). This project concerns the observation and determination of orbits of space debris that threatens satellites and spacecraft working in space.
