The scientists of the Department of Polymer Technology of the Faculty of Chemistry of the Gdańsk University of Technology discovered an innovative polymer composition for the production of disposable eco-friendly cutlery.

The innovative composition includes thermoplastic starch obtained from potato flour and natural-derived additives and biopolymer of polylactide. The disposable products obtained from it are durable in use and at the same time retain environmentally friendly properties. They can be composted along with food scraps and are completely biodegradable.

– For the production of our biopolymer materials, easily available raw materials of natural origin or raw materials obtained from renewable sources are used, which is a significant advantage over the commonly used oil derivatives – explains the head of the research team – Prof. Helena Janik.
