The seed furrow coulter developed by the inter-faculty team of scientists from the University of Technology and Life Sciences in Bydgoszcz won the bronze medal at the 19th International Invention and Innovation Fair Malaysia Technology Expo in Kuala Lumpur.
The furrow sowing method involves sowing seeds into a seedbed at the bottom of a furrow formed to a depth of 6-8 cm from the flat surface of the field. For sowing, it uses a seeder, equipped with coulters, which have a larger wing opening angle (10-20 degrees) and no harrow.
In operation, the seeder’s coulter wings make a furrow 6-10 cm wide and deep. Seeds falling through seed pipes from the sowing unit to the bottom of unexplored furrows are covered by a 1 cm layer of soil sliding by gravity.
Malaysia Technology Expo is one of the most important international inventions exhibitions in the region. About 500 inventions were presented at the fair.
