The Department of Comparative Civilization Studies of the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, the Facta Ficta Research Center and the Institute of Linguistics and Literature of the University of Natural Sciences and Humanities in Siedlce are organizing a nationwide scientific online conference “Series” on April 24-25, 2021.
The culture of series and the methods of watching them have changed dramatically since the introduction of media that are not TV stations. The emerging new ways of their production and distribution influenced the shaping of new phenomena regarding the reception of content and created the need to create narratives adapted, also thematically and in terms of duration, to a modern viewer.
The participants of the conference will discuss the following issues: relationships between old and new methods of distributing series narratives and content; series conventions (sitcom, procedural, drama series, miniseries, soap opera); series genres and their popularity among viewers; streaming platforms and their role in shaping the contemporary series landscape; legal and illegal forms of distribution of series; the influence of the fan community on the series and the ways of their perception.
