Japanese prince’s couple visiting the Jagiellonian University in Krakow

The brother of Emperor of Japan Naruhito Prince Akishino and his wife, Princess Kiko, visited the Jagiellonian University (UJ). The couple visited the Jagiellonian University Collegium Maius Museum and signed in the memorial book.

Their visit at the University of Krakow were part of the official visit of the Japanese heir to the throne in Poland on the occasion of a century of establishing Polish-Japanese diplomatic relations.

The visit began with visiting the Jagiellonian Chamber and the treasury at the Collegium Maius. Then the guests went to Stuba Communis, where the rector of the Jagiellonian University Prof. Wojciech Nowak and the director of the Museum of the Jagiellonian University Prof. Krzysztof Stopka introduced the centuries-long history of the Jagiellonian University to the prince and the princess.

Prince Akishino received a replica of the 16th century Globus Jagiellonicus – the oldest globe in the world, showing the North and South Americas.
