The Szczecinek branch of the Koszalin University of Technology is launching the Center for the Measurement of Physical and Mechanical Properties of Wood Materials. The total cost of its launch is over PLN 1.77 million, of which almost PLN 1.17 million will be allocated by the Regional Operational Program of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship.
The Center will be equipped with modern apparatus, thanks to which scientists will be able to look inside the material made of wood without destroying it. The basic tool is the microtomograph, which enables the analysis of the internal structure of materials with the accuracy of a single micrometer. Such accuracy is necessary, because in the internal structure of the wood, spatial changes can be observed even at the level of thousandth part of a millimeter.
The University of Technology educates specialists for the wood industry. Extending the scientific and didactic offer to include research on new materials and technologies for wood processing will allow for closer cooperation with the industry.
