On October 16, 2018, the University of Warsaw and the Warsaw Medical University signed a letter of intent regarding the creation of a federation of both universities. The new law on higher education and science gave the universities such a opportunity.

Both universities intend to carry out scientific projects together, run selected didactic classes together, enable students and partner university staff to use their infrastructure. The Warsaw universities will submit an application for the creation of a federation to the Ministry of Science in 2019.

– We want the connectivity between our environments to be real again after so many years. I mean specific scientific, didactic and organizational cooperation – said Prof. Marcin Pałys, rector of the University of Warsaw.
In turn, Prof. Mirosław Wielgoś, Rector of the Warsaw Medical University, emphasized that both universities are growing out of the common tradition. – Some time ago we decided that we would strengthen our relationships. We now have a great opportunity to create a model university based on the potential that both universities have – he added.
