Dr Krzysztof Piotrowski’s PhD thesis from the Faculty of Biology and Environmental Protection at the University of Lodz, UŁ, titled ‘The development of an energy crop strategy using ecological methods under conditions of global climate and environmental change’, has been recognised as the best PhD award of 2022. “Developing strategies for cultivating energy crops using ecological methods under conditions of global climate and environmental change” has been recognised as the best in 2022 in the Best PhD Award competition organised by the Baltic University Programme.
According to Prof Aleksander Lisowski from the Department of Biosystems Engineering at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences (SGGW) in Warsaw, Dr Krzysztof Piotrowski justified the use of biological factors in agriculture in a broad and multidisciplinary manner, taking into account climatic and environmental aspects, biological development of energy crops, physical properties of biomass and the economic balance.
Prof. Lisowski emphasised the global importance of the selection of research topics, the innovative approach and the novelty of the dissertation on the pro-ecological use of biological agents in modern agriculture instead of fertilisers and synthetic agents.
The Baltic University Programme is a network of more than 220 universities and higher education institutions, mainly from the Baltic countries, but also from Ukraine, the Czech Republic, Norway and Belarus.
