Approximately 12 million people in Poland suffer from allergies. Approximately 8 million have allergic rhinitis and more than 4 million struggle with asthma. For many, dust is an annoyance. The main habitats of house dust mites are duvets, pillows and mattresses. It is for this reason that researchers from the Textile Centre Łukasiewicz – Łódź Institute of Technology are working on a specific barrier in the form of anti-allergic covers.
The aim of the project is to develop innovative anti-allergic covers made of a multifunctional textile material. Currently available covers on the market are poorly air-permeable, unpleasant to the touch or quickly lose their properties.
The anti-allergy covers created by the Lukasiewicz researchers will be characterised by high effectiveness against house dust mite allergens, hygiene, comfort and durability in use. Due to their high durability in use and resistance to washing at 95°C, it will be possible to use the covers in hospitals, sanatoriums and hotels.
