From 24 September to 1 October 2023, the ‘7 Rivers’ educational project, whose originator and main organiser is the Faculty of Earth Sciences and Spatial Management at Maria Curie Skłodowska University (UMCS) in Lublin, is being implemented. The initiative is aimed primarily at school children and young people, and its aim is to popularise the idea of sustainable development and nature conservation.
The project has the character of a bicycle rally from Lublin to Vilnius, a partner city of Lublin, which this year celebrates its 700th anniversary of foundation. Participants in the expedition will be teachers and naturalists from the UMCS, the Foundation for Nature and the National Society for the Protection of Birds.
During the rally, workshops will be held in selected primary schools (in the Lubelskie, Mazowieckie and Podlaskie Voivodeships) on the issues of sustainable transport and nature conservation in river valleys.
