The University of Maria Curie-Skłodowska (UMCS) in Lublin was granted the right to grant doctoral degrees in the musical arts by decision of the Central Commission for Degrees and Titles. The application was prepared by the Music Institute of the Faculty of Arts of the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University.

Obtaining the right to grant degrees of doctor of art is the result of a consistent and steadily implemented development program of the Institute of Music of the Faculty of Arts of the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University.

The high position of the Faculty of Arts (category A), the high level of education of the Institute of Music (positive assessment for the field of Art Education in the field of music art of the State Accreditation Committee), conducting active artistic activity on the international and national arena and meeting all formal requirements regarding the right to confer doctoral degrees arts were the basis for the Music Institute’s application for authorization.
