After a year of preparations, the Faculty of Medicine was officially inaugurated at the Wrocław University of Science and Technology. This is the first technical university in Poland to be authorised to train students in medicine.
“The technical disciplines that dominate our university have always been strongly supported by the basic sciences and, almost from the beginning, the social sciences have flourished at the University of Technology. However, the opening of the medical faculty is a historic day, opening a completely new chapter”, says the Rector of Wrocław University of Technology, Professor Arkadiusz Wójs.
The medical faculty currently employs ca. 60 new academic staff, including more than 10 professors and more than 20 university professors. They form the first six faculties, and cardiologist Dr Dariusz Jagielski, MD, has been appointed acting dean. The Faculty Council, the Discipline Council and the Clinical Affairs Council will soon be appointed, and 60 students will start studying medicine on 1 October.
