The Director of the Jan Kochanowski University (UJK) University Library in Siedlce would like to invite the public on 26 February 2024 at 4 p.m. to a meeting promoting the latest book by Prof. Wiesław Caban ” Siberian exiles about January Uprising. Personages – views – ideas”, published by the DiG Publishing House on the occasion of the 160th Anniversary of the January Uprising.

Professor Wiesław Caban is an outstanding expert on the history of Poles in the Russian Empire in the 19th century, author of many books on the subject, and Vice-Chancellor of UJK in 2008-2012. 

In his latest publication, he analysed 100 biographies of Polish exiles during the inter-insurrectionary period who, after returning home, became involved again in the independence movement and the January Uprising. This allowed him to answer the question – what were the reasons why the January Uprising became so significant for the Polish national tradition, both then and now.
