The Minister of Education and Science Przemysław Czarnek inaugurated on September 20, 2021 in Piotrków Trybunalski the activity of the first Discovery, Imagination and Activity Zone – SOWA. Later this year, it is planned to launch a second facility in Racibórz. More such local science centres will be established within 2 years in smaller towns all over Poland.
Zones of Discovery, Imagination and Activity – SOWAs are a pilot project of the Ministry of Education and Science and the Copernicus Science Center (CNK) launched in August 2020.
-We allocated PLN 44 million for it. It assumes the creation by 2023 of a nationwide network of local science mini-centers, in which knowledge will be acquired through independent research and experimentation, in accordance with the innovative approach practiced for years at the CSC -emphasized Minister Czarnek.
SOWAs will be built next to existing cultural institutions, such as community centers, libraries, and museums. Each facility will house an exhibition and the Majsternia – a space for free experimentation, where classes will also be held.
