The Institute of the Astronomical Observatory of Adam Mickiewicz University (UAM) in Poznan is expanding its horizons with a monumental project: a model of the solar system. The model is intended to combine science with aesthetics and provide a unique educational experience.

Unlike other planetary trails, which focus on separate elements of the Solar System or stretch for kilometres, the Astronomical Observatory Institute decided to take up the challenge and create a model in which both distances and planetary sizes can be contained within the limited area of the park at 36 Słoneczna St. This unusual approach allows for a more realistic understanding of the planetary system.

“Although the distance scale will be 100 times smaller than the scale of the planets, this will allow us to show all objects. We will have both rocky and gaseous planets, which will provide a fascinating lesson in astronomy for visitors”, says Jakub Tokarek from the UAM.
